Self-Talk, Trusting Your Gut & Change | Wednesday Waffles 3rd Edition
Take a deep breath with me. I N H A L E 1 2 3 - E X H A L E 3 2 1
Ok now I feel more grounded. Did you know that we are officially in Taurus season now? Although I am not an astrologer and never claimed to be one… there are parts of astrology that I’ve enjoyed learning and integrating into how I understand the Universe, energy and myself.
The full on Aries energy we’ve been experiencing over the last month has felt passionate, fire-y and a feeling of ‘move now or you’ll miss out’. Early on in the Aries season there was still confusion and uncertainty, and I noticed how it felt challenging to use that fire-y, activating energy when I wasn’t 100% sure about where I was heading.
Now, in the Taurus energy I’m already feeling much more grounded in what I’m creating and the path I am moving forward on. I grew up in a household with 2 members of my family having their sun sign in Taurus. This grounded, stable and loyal energy has surrounded me for my whole life and now I’m noticing how comforting it feels to be in this calm, patient sign.
Taking the time in this sign to continue to build on your dreams and take action from a more grounded, stable energy can help you to create the consistency needed for your growth and expansion. It’s your life and the choices you make can be the difference between thriving and simply surviving.
With that, let me share some of the choices I’ve been making that have been a game changer in helping me to thrive in life.
Let’s dive into the third edition of Wednesday Waffles!

Conversations I’m Having Lately…
How do you speak to yourself? How do you speak about yourself?
The other day at my part-time job I made a mistake and I said out loud “Oh that was silly!”. My co-worker (turned friend) sitting behind me replied with, “silly?! That is way nicer than saying you’re an idiot. I need to change how I speak about myself.”
We’ve talked about this a few times, specifically when she was taking on a new role and she had a lot of insecurities around if she would be able to step up to the task. She mentioned how myself and several of our coworkers see her as capable and smart, and we have no doubts in her ability to take on this position. She mentioned how she wished she could see herself that same way, instead of the doubt, self-judgment and inner-criticism she faces.
This is something that I’ve been working on for almost a year (probably longer, but consciously it’s been since last summer). I had the recognition last summer that I was tired of listening to my incessant self-doubt and insecurities. The voice telling me that I wasn’t good enough, I never would be good enough, and there was no way I would reach my dreams. I had witnessed time and time again, my friends, my family and even my clients, telling me how great I was as a mentor… yet, I couldn’t fully receive those compliments… because I didn’t believe it in my heart of hearts.
This recent conversation with my co-worker made me realize that no matter how much someone else compliments us, no matter how much someone else believes in us, it won’t make up for the fact that we don’t feel that same way about ourselves.
I will never feel confident about the steps I take in life if I’m only listening to someone else tell me how great I am, because internally my self belief is rejecting those comments.
How do you speak to yourself? How do you speak about yourself?
The choice last summer to start changing my internal narrative, the view I have of myself, is part of the path that has helped me thrive more easily in life. I feel more confident and courageous on my path BECAUSE I’m more kind to myself, more encouraging.
Instead of immediately falling back into self-judgment and doubt, I’m able to fill my internal world with self-acceptance and compassion. I’ve learned that we are taught to doubt ourselves, we are taught by the outside world to be humble… but being humble doesn’t mean being self-deprecating. How can we balance humility and confidence? How can we shift our thought patterns away from fear of not being enough to believe in our innate worthiness?
Consistency. Choice. Connection.
When I consistently notice my old narrative I can make the choice to change it. When I connect with my soul I can more easily build trust in myself and trust on my path.
I left that conversation with my coworker by saying, “Yes, you do need to work on how you speak about yourself”. It doesn’t take much to create these kinds of changes, only a willingness to choose differently.
3 Tips I’m Remembering…
1 - Micro moments stacked over time can create lasting change.
I’ve had a few breakthrough moments that felt like my whole life tipped on its axis and I had to step into massive change (or choose to stay in a cycle that I had outgrown). Although these moments are necessary to realign with your soul path, I don’t believe they are the only way to create change. It’s the micro moments that actually create lasting change, because through the micro moments you rewire your belief system and you reroot your habits in ways that feel expansive and soul centered.
If I hadn't tried meditating every day for a year then I would’ve never uncovered the depth of my soul in the way that I have. I didn’t get there because one of those meditations was the breakthrough… I got there because of the consistency in those micro moments that shifted my core. It shifted the way I felt on a daily basis and a year later I was unrecognizable, in all the good ways. This is why inside The Soul Care Space I am sharing more practices and resources that are 5-25 minutes. Making it easier for you to connect with your soul and shift your energy is part of my mission, because I’ve experienced how life changing those micro moments really can be.
2 - Your body knows what you need, even if your mind tries to convince you otherwise.
This past weekend my body was telling me to get into nature and to get out of my house. I was tired and I could’ve easily convinced myself that I needed to rest, which would’ve resulted in staying home and watching YouTube for the afternoon. But something in my body kept saying “get outside”. A friend and I made plans to go up to the lake for the afternoon, but my mind kept trying to convince me to get out of the plans. When I took a deep breath and asked my body what it needed, I realized that a day at the lake, surrounded by nature and out of cell service was exactly the type of ‘rest’ I needed. I didn’t need rest that required sleep. I needed rest from constant productivity. I needed rest from constant consumption. After an afternoon/evening of laughter with friends, breathing in fresh spring air, and being off my phone and devices I felt revitalized. Learning to listen to your body when making decisions takes practice, and it’s something I talk about this week inside The Soul Care Space. Trusting your gut instinct and emotional center is a Human Design tool that can help with the big and small decisions. I love being able to support you in trusting the decisions you make in life, because making those aligned decisions is one of the keys to thriving.
3 - Allow opportunities to come from change.
Change can feel scary for multiple reasons. There is so much unknown, and when fear is the driving force we can easily believe that terrible things will happen. Change usually requires effort and hard work, which can feel scary when we’ve created a comfort zone around effort. What do I mean by this? A friend recently changed careers after 10+ years being in the veterinary medicine world, and now she is having to learn a completely new field. Her comfort zone was in the daily tasks of being a vet-med nurse (technician), which definitely requires effort and hard work, but it no longer felt hard to her because she had known it for so many years. This new career feels hard because it’s outside of her comfort zone. Do we want to feed the voice of fear? Or do we want to feed the voice of trust? As I move through my own changes, here at AwP Wellness and with my membership The Soul Care Space, I am remembering that opportunities can come from change. Noticing when my mind falls into the old pattern of fearing the worst, I take a few deep breaths and remind myself that opportunities and blessings can also come from change. When you change the way you look at something, the thing you look at changes.
Here’s to another successful Wednesday Waffles, chatting about all the tips, tricks and conversations that are positively impacting the life I’m building. It all comes back to YOU - your energy is what matters most and I truly hope you are taking care of your energy in a way that feels supportive, encouraging and expansive.
Tip for Empath Souls Feeling Exhausted/Overwhelmed
If you feel like you are struggling as an empath soul right now, feeling exhausted and overwhelmed by the world, then I would encourage you to carve out some time today to breathe into your heart. Visualize your cleansing breath moving through your body as it releases any tension you’ve been holding onto. Then allow the pink, loving energy from your heart expand outwards and fully envelope your body. Sit in this energy and breathe with it. This 5 minute practice can shift your energy into the calm, comforting space you’ve been searching for.
Much love,
